Samples? Yes, please!
That basically defines my relationship with samples. Here are a few I’ve tried recently. None of them warrant a full-fledged post, since the majority were those annoying packets. So, I will dub this series “Drive-by Samples.”
I know that skin care is individual to everyone, so you should probably know what my skin type is before you read on. I have combination/oily skin with my oily areas being in my t-zone. My skin is relatively sensitive, but for the most part my breakouts occur during that time, if you know what I mean. My skin reacts well to daily exfoliation, as you will see if you read on.
Philosophy The Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash
I love a good exfoliator, and this one was okay. For the most part, I like extremely-gritty-scrub-half-your-skin-off scrubs, and this one was a bit mild. In fact, it is described as a mild, exfoliating facial cleanser. The smell was not awful, and I felt like my skin was very clean afterwards (as has been my experience with Philosophy cleansers). If you don’t like a strong exfoliator, or if your skin is sensitive to exfoliation, this would be a good one for you.
PETER THOMAS ROTH Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel
While this cleansing gel left my skin feeling really smooth and clean, the smell was so off-putting that I would never use even a sample of this again. This cleanser is oil-free and foams as you lather it on your face. It leaves your skin feeling super smooth, due to the 1% each of Glyolic Acid and Salicylic Acid. I was pleased with how it made my skin felt, but just can’t deal with the smell.
boscia Oil-Free Nightly Hydration
One word: LOVE. Last year, I tried a nightly moisturizer from Caudalie that I absolutely fell in love with. This moisturizer rivals that one, and it’s half the price (but still expensive at $36 for 1.4 ounces)! I know I’ve already mentioned smells twice already in this post, but I have to say it: the smell was nice. It felt smooth and sank into my skin so nicely. In the morning, my skin felt hydrated and healthy. I would definitely recommend this moisturizer!
Lush Ocean Salt
This is, hands down, my favorite face scrub. FAVORITE. I am not exaggerating. If you are ever in a Lush store, ask for a sample of this! This scrub can be used all over the body, but since it’s on the expensive side ($21.95 for 4.2 ounces) I use it sparingly and only on my face. It contains avocado and coconut oil for hydration, vodka-infused lime for the antibacterial properties, and sea salt for exfoliation. The smell is delicious, too! As I said before, my face can take a lot of exfoliation (and actually looks better from it), so this doesn’t irritate my skin at all.
So, there you have it! The first of many Drive-by Samples reviews. I hope this was enjoyable for someone, because trying out new products is a lot of fun to me.
In other news, our daughter turns 2 today! I can’t even believe that two years ago, at this hour, I was in labor and we were about to meet her. We bought her a little play kitchen, because she enjoys banging on my pots and pans while I’m cooking. The boys and I will decorate the house with streamers and balloons on Saturday morning for her party in the afternoon. It’s going to be an exciting weekend!
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you have a great weekend, too! 🙂
