Top was thrifted, Belt was purchased with gift card won in a give away
When I used this shirt for the first time the other day, I felt like a pirate. Weeelll, now I really feel like a pirate. This Matt & Nat belt is freakin’ awesome, but it has a certain scallywag quality about it that, in my opinion, limits its use in my day-to-day wardrobe.
However, when one puts on a striped shirt, leggings, and boots, one must play the part. So, on the belt went. Now, all I need is a parrot and an eye patch.
As mentioned in a previous post, this is a shirt I purchased from Goodwill and refashioned a bit. It’s about three sizes too big, but I fell in love the stripes and the buttons. Who wouldn’t, right? So, here’s what I did. I put the shirt on, inside out, and safety pinned under my arms where I wanted to take it in. Then, I took it off and laid it flat on the table. Following the seams already there, I drew a line from where the safety pin was and tapered it down to the seam. Then, I took it to the sewing machine and sewed along the line. I also tried to alter the neck line a bit, but I’m actually going to need to rip out those seams to get them how I want it to look (basically, same bateau neck line, just a smaller opening).
Et, voila! Easy peasy for my first refashioning. Now if I could just wrangle some pants into skinnies . . .
