If you’ve been around this blog o’ mine for any length of time, you’ll know that I love remixing outfits. If not for the fun of “shopping my closet,” then definitely for the vast array of outfits that can be found if you switch up a couple pieces here and there.
When I’m shopping, thrifting or otherwise (not that “otherwise” happens often), I tend to go for basic pieces. Solids, predictable patterns, and safe shapes. To me, this maximizes my wardrobe. Very rarely do I branch out and get something super cute, like this dress. When eShakti contacted me about their spring line, I knew it was time to step out of the comfort zone and test my remixing abilities. I’ve put together three looks featuring their Contrast Bow-Tie Sheath Dress.
When my dress arrived in the mail, I instantly put it with these shoes. The blue (they’re actually denim) compliments the yellow so well! I was also happy to have an outfit that matches one of the barrettes I received in an Umba Box last year from Willow Handmade.
I decided to go a little bolder with this look, although when I wear my usual cold-in-the-office cardigan, I don’t think bold! haha… My lips even got in on the remix action. The red is a mixture of two Revlon lip butters – Candy Apple and Red Velvet. It ties in the red in my shoes. This would be a really cute date outfit. To make this work appropriate, I would switch out the shoes and wear some black pumps or black wedges, and maybe wear a skinnier belt.
I love this last look. In fact, this might be what I wear on Easter. The belt looks a little turquoise in the photos, but looks more Robin’s Egg Blue in person. My favorite color to put with this dress so far is blue, apparently! I tied in the blue with my earrings and left the shoes neutral.
I am pleased as punch that this dress is remixable and can be worked into my current wardrobe. I’m also super happy with the customizations I had done to it. Every measurement was customized, and I also had the hem shortened to above the knee. I am so happy I did that, because ‘at the knee’ would have been too much fabric for my short legs! While browsing eShakti’s site, I saw a ton of cute spring dresses they’ve just released, and they are now offering sizes up to 36! They really have something for everyone.
eShakti also sent me a little treat for you. Use the special discount code REBECCLTEL to get 20% OFF when you shop at eShakti – valid from 03/01/13 thru 03/10/13.
*UPDATE: eShakti contacted me to let me know that there was a technical glitch with the discount code. As such, it will be available until March 20, 2013.
So, what’s your shopping style? Do you play it safe, or do you enjoy branching out of your comfort zone?
