Dress and belt were thrifted
Oh, how I would love to go back to the beach right now. Tuesdays sometimes feel like Monday, Jr., don’t they? The beach sounds like more fun than work. This post isn’t completely beach-related, but I do have another Rebecca Reads recommendation for you! See where I’m going with this? Beach? Reading? Reading on the beach? Ahh… if only I was sitting under a palm tree instead of wearing palm tree leaves on my dress!
Today’s book is Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. If you enjoy historical fiction, this will be an enjoyable read for you. It follows a gentleman, also named Jonathan Safran Foer, as he travels across the big pond to try and find a woman who may or may not have saved his grandfather from the Nazis. He hires an old gentleman who does not speak English and the gentleman’s grandson who acts as interpreter between the two. Between the grandfather’s dog named Sammy Davis, Junior, Junior, and the funny mistranslations between Ukraine and English, this book is a page turner (just joking about Sammy Davis, Junior, Junior. All she does is fart. It’s not that exciting). The interesting part of the book is that it kind of works from both ends of the story. It starts from the beginning, way back in the 1700’s and works forward while Jonathan is working backwards through his grandfather’s story. This is definitely one of those books that you need to read more than once so you’re sure you didn’t miss any details.
I hope you’ll check it out! This is a book I recommend to a lot of people. And when you’re done reading it, you can watch the movie starring Elijah Wood.
