This is the second post in my Makeup Monday series for March. This month’s Monday posts will be highlighting drugstore products. Last week was neutral eyeshadow palettes, and this week is face primers!
I have only been using face primers for the past two years or so. I guess I didn’t understand what they were for, but the first one I tried (Laura Geller Spackle) completely sold me on the concept. I have combination/oily skin and I live in a humid state. Face primer helps my foundation stay on all day. Some primers can also smooth the complexion and texture of your skin.
These three face primers are really amazing primers from the drugstore. I personally think they rival high end primer.
L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother Finishing Cream
First up is the most recent primer I’ve tried. When I read that this primer smooths your skin and erases fine lines, I instantly thought of the Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch. It’s one of my favorite high end face primers. The L’Oreal primer is the first one I’ve found that’s similar. They’re both a thick, silicone-feeling primer that smooths the texture of your skin. Neither one of them perfect color, but they do blur my acne spots and leave my face looking soft and smooth. My foundation stays on all day with both of them and my complexion looks even and smoothed.
The L’Oreal primer is actually really expensive for the drugstore. For $24.99, you get 1.18 ounces of the primer. The one you see in the picture is a trial size that I found at Walgreens for $6.99. I just couldn’t justify the price of the full size, since I hadn’t tried it yet. Now, the Clarins primer is $35. But, you only get .50 ounces. So, for $10 less you can get over double the primer, that performs exactly the same as the expensive version.
E.L.F. Mineral Infused Face Primer
This is a primer I discovered last summer, and it kept my makeup looking fresh in the heat and humidity. It’s $6 and you get 0.50 ounces. It reminds me of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, right down to the clear gel look of the product. It’s one of those slippy-feeling primers that makes your fingers feel weird and smooth while you’re applying. It would be perfect if it smoothed the texture of my skin, too. (They have a couple other versions of this that I want to try)
If you don’t care/need to have your skin looking like a baby’s butt (like the L’Oreal one does for me), get this one!
Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser
This is relatively new to the drugstore. So…. of course I had to get it. To make a long story short, it does exactly what the E.L.F. and Smashbox primers do, only it actually makes you look poreless. It’s amazing. I don’t own a lot of Maybelline products and wasn’t sure what to expect. Now that I love this, I want to try some more products by them. This is $6.99 and you get 0.67 ounces.
I’ve been really happy to find drugstore equivalents for my favorite high end primers!
Do you use a face primer? If you do, what’s your favorite?
