Today’s Makeup Monday is my hair care routine! Towards the beginning of the year, I decided to be better with the products I use on my hair. I am the kind of person who waltzes into the drugstore or grocery store and grabs whatever shampoo or conditioner looks great at the time.
When I won a twitter giveaway from Birchbox, I was sent some hair products that are really great and natural, so I was excited to start out my hair care routine re-vamp the right way!
Beauty Protector Protect & Shampoo and Protect & Conditioner
I first tried these products in a Birchbox a couple months ago. I immediately liked them because the scent is refreshing. It smells like coconut, which is one of my favorite scents. In fact, I think these products smell like the beach. This shampoo and conditioner are sulfate free and free of many other things that are considered bad for your hair. It’s also packed full of nutrients that guard against the damages from heat styling. My hair has never felt so strong and healthy before. I really can’t see myself without these products!
Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle
I use this detangling spray every day to keep the ends of my hair hydrated and nourished. This makes my hair silky smooth. It smells exactly like the shampoo and conditioner, and I can smell it throughout the day. I love it! I also use this on Izzie’s hair, because it’s basically torture to brush her hair at night. This keeps her hair tangle-free and shiny.
Dove Nourishing Oil Care Conditioner
Before I started using the Beauty & Protect products, I was using this line from Dove. It was entirely too rich to use every day on my hair, so I started using it once a week as a hair mask. I love it so much more now! It also has a yummy smell that stays on my hair all day.
When I style my hair straight, I only use the detangler on my ends before I flatiron on my hair.
Not Your Mother’s Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream
When I want to style my hair wavy (basically, natural for my hair), I use this curl defining cream. It helps keep my waves intact, even in our humid summers. It kind of smells like grape Kool-Aid, which is not my fave. But, I don’t smell it throughout the day so that’s good. It’s the most affordable curl defining hair product I’ve used. I also really like the Aveda Be Curly Style Prep, but it’s a little pricey. It’s very nice and effective, though!
Bumble & Bumble Semisumo
Well, I just said that Aveda was pricey and here I go and show you a pricey product! I’ve found that cheap pomades are just that — cheap. I haven’t found a drugstore equivalent to this Semisumo. This is a high shine, low hold pomade that also helps my waves to stay intact. It smells like manly citrus, if that is such a scent. Just a tiny squidge of this is enough for all my hair. It gives my hair a piece-y look that I think is really pretty.
That’s it for my hair care routine! I’ve actually simplified it quite a bit over the years. I used to use so many products on my hair, I’ve found that simpler is better.
What do you use on your hair?
