So, you know Eliza and I are both doing this summer remix. Eliza has been my remixing friend for a while. This week, I thought back to how Eliza and I came to know each other online.
And I realized that Eliza is actually the person I have to thank for inspiring me to create this blog.
And I thought even further back, and realized that Ravelry is something else that led me to this blog.
So, back in 2006, I started knitting and Ravelry started accepting beta users. Any Ravelry users out there? Do you remember when there was a waiting list to join? I think I was on the list for a month!
I don’t remember exactly when, but I found Eliza’s profile via a project page. She had pictures of the shawl she knit for her wedding day. I thought it was gorgeous and went through her other projects. If I’m not mistaken, I also saw her model some knitting projects for Stephen West. I added her to my friends list, and she added me back! We both happened to be on Livejournal back then (I kind of still am… only kind of), so we added each other over there too.
During that same time, I started reading blogs. Yarn Harlot was the first one I started reading consistently. In fact, I still read her blog! I was posting on Livejournal semi-regularly, but there was a period of time that we didn’t have internet. That was mostly because we didn’t even have cable hooked up to the house until 2007. Yaaaaay for living in the country! (joking)
Eliza stopped posting on Livejournal and started a blog on WordPress. I enjoyed reading her journal so much, I started reading her over there. She started talking about Kendi’s blog and the 30 for 30 challenge, and thus my downward spiral into fashion blogs began. Around the same time, I discovered beauty videos on Youtube. If I had been listening really hard, I would’ve heard the sound of all my free time whooshing out the door, due to the infinite time suck of the internet.
But, I didn’t. I kept reading more and more fashion blogs and decided to start one of my own.
It’s so weird how things happen like that. One chance click on Ravelry’s project pages, and years later I start a blog as a result. And gain a really awesome friend. And even though I only know Eliza online, I like to think that we’d be pretty awesome friends in person, too!
