LEATHER NOVER REVIEW
A little over a year ago, I purchased the Madewell Kensington Satchel as a birthdIay present to myself. It is, without a doubt, my favorite purse (and is now called the Glasgow Satchel). It was also my first leather purse. I had no idea how to care for leather, so my purse has not been cleaned or conditioned this whole time! Lately, I’ve been using Leather Nova leather care products to restore the vibrancy of my purse. I am so pleased with it, I’ve also been using it on my Lucky Emmie flats. My flats have actually been water stained, so I had zero hope for them. But, the Leather Nova conditioner and cleaner literally worked wonders on them!! I will share before/after pictures of my shoes at a later date, but for today I’ll be showing how I care for my leather purse.
Leather Nova sent me three different products, the Leather Cleaner, the Leather Conditioner, and the Leather Condtioner+Cleaner. For my purse, I used the cleaner and conditioner.
You can see how used and abused my purse is! I use it all the time.
The first step is to clean the leather. I spray the leather cleaner on the terry cloth and work it in, moving in circular motions. I focus on some stains, but basically rub it all over.
The leather will look wet when you clean it, so I let it dry. Next, I take the Leather Conditioner on the sponge that comes with it. It is clear, which is wonderful. Before I had started using this, I imagined leather conditioner to be brown. I have no idea why I thought this, but I did! It is clear, so you don’t have to worry about it coloring your hands. I take the sponge and apply the conditioner in a thin coat. Working it in circles insures you cover the surface evenly.
Once you’ve worked the conditioner in, let it sit for about an hour. At that point, you can take a dry rag and buff in the conditioner a little bit more. The bottom two pictures (above) are the purse right after I applied the conditioner and then an hour later. You can tell that it soaks in nicely, and the leather has a gorgeous sheen to it now!
You can treat your leather products once a month to keep them looking new. I don’t conditioner my purse that often. It is nice to have these products on hand at any moment, in case I get a stain or a scuff that needs to be treated.
I have also been using these products on my Lucky Emmie flats. Those flats have seriously seen better days … and they’re not even that old! I have scuffed them up so badly, I had pretty much resigned them to only wearing them in the yard. I’ve treated them twice so far with the Leather Nova Conditioner+Cleaner, and I am SO happy with how they look. They need to be treated a few more times before I’m happy with the color and sheen. I’ll make sure and share those pictures when they’re at that point!
