One day a couple weeks ago, I wanted a new book. Please note that I didn’t say ‘need’ a new book… I just wanted a new one. I have plenty of books to read, in neat little stacks on my book case. No, I wanted something different and when I was perusing the shelves of Books-a-Million, I found it. That day, I bought To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. I’d passed over this book many, many times. It seemed a little too fluffy for me, you know what I mean? But, fluff is what I wanted, so I purchased it!
I love the premise of this book. This story centers around Lara Jean and the letters she wrote to boys she loved. The boys don’t know about the letters. Lara Jean only writes the letters when she wants to get over the boy, and then she promptly stores them in a hat box her mom gave her before she passed away. Lara Jean is about to enter a new phase in her life, when her big sister Margot goes overseas to college. Margot has been the big sister ‘second mom’ to Lara Jean and their little sister Kitty, and she keeps their sweet, sweet dad organized.
Margot’s leaving has prompted her to break up with her long-time boyfriend and the sisters’ childhood friend, Josh. While Lara Jean deals with the emotional roller coaster from that, the five love letters from her special hat box have mysteriously been delivered to the unintended recipients! And, oh yeah… Margot’s boyfriend was one of them. Shortly after her letters are delivered to the boys, she is presented with a unique opportunity to save face in this very-high-school-drama situation.
Who is sending out Lara Jean’s letters and what will she do??
Overall, this is a great summer book. It was so much fun to read, and I couldn’t put it down!
I read it fairly quickly and then realized that the sequel was being released soon. I pre-ordered and it’s already here (and I’ve already finished it…). I’ll be reviewing it soon, too!
