A while back, I shared some of our favorite Halloween books for kids. Since we only have one Thanksgiving book, I skipped that holiday. I am keeping my eyes and ears open for good Thanksgiving books. I feel like it’s the holiday that gets forgotten!
I want to share a few of our current favorite Christmas books. Now, this is just the tippy tip of the iceberg, as far as Christmas books are concerned. We buy at least one Christmas book every year, especially since the kids reading skills improve every year. But, mostly because I love Christmas books. 🙂
I don’t always buy books on their reading levels, sometimes we buy Christmas books simply because they’re pretty.
I couldn’t not include this classic! I love this Christmas poem so much, and this is my favorite edition of the book. This is the book I had when I was younger, which makes it even more special to me when we read it every year.
Adventures in Cartooning: Christmas Special
This was a super cute book I found last year for the kids. It’s a combination of Christmas story, complete with a cartooning elf, and tutorials on how to draw comics. If your kids love comics as much as I do, this would be a fun read for them. The story is laid out in comic book style panels, and it tells the story of the cartooning elf creating a comic book for Santa to gift to all the boys and girls. It’s pretty cute.
The Christmas Party From the Black Lagoon
The Black Lagoon series is popular in our house. We have quite a lot of books from this series, which are geared more towards boys. The series is about a class room in a black lagoon and the zany things they encounter. The stories are fun and there are a lot of silly words so kids can work on their phoneme recognition (without its being work).
Deck the Halls, We’re Off the Walls
The Dan Gupman books are another popular book series with our two oldest kids. Our boys discovered them last year, and they love them! The stories are kind of like The Black Lagoon. They’re silly stories centered around a school. This books in this series usually involve one of the grown ups, like a teacher, doing something silly. All of the titles rhyme as well.
Calendar Mystery: December Dog
If your kids love mysteries, they will love this series! This is the only book we have from this author, and we’d like to get some more. This is a mystery about a puppy who shows up in the kids’ town. The kids go around town, using clues to figure out who the puppy belongs to. It’s a very cute story.
