I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve reviewed a book here on my blog. I finished Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin, and I instantly knew I had to review it. I like to review books no matter what I think about them, but when I love a book I want to tell everyone to read it! Spoiler alert: GO READ THIS.
This book is set in the 1950s. It’s an alternate historical fiction. Hitler won WWII, and he’s slowly either taking over the rest of the world or allying with other large countries to further his agenda. This book follow Yael from the time she was on a train heading into a concentration camp with her mother. She was 6 years old. The story jumps time frames between when she was in the concentration camp and later in her life, when she is part of the resistance attempting to take down Hitler’s regime.
Unfortunately, she was part of a medical experiment at the concentration camp where her identity was wiped from her DNA. She was left as a shell of a human and developed the ability to shape shift. She can alter her appearance to look like anyone in the world.
In the present time of the story, which is the 1950s, Hitler holds a motorcycle race every year. The victor has always been a man until the last year. Adele Wolfe impersonates her twin bother and enters the motorcycle race. At the end of the race, she revealed her identity. At the end of the race, they held a gala for the victor and Hitler danced with Adele. This was unheard of, because Hitler has had so many assassination attempts (imagine that), he was a recluse.
Yael and her co-conspirators in the resistance take the chance with Yael’s impersonating Adele and entering into the motorcycle race. Yael’s mission is to pose as Adele, win the motorcycle race, dance with Hitler, and kill him.
There are only a couple problems … like, Adele’s twin brother who enters the race at the last time and another racer named Luka who is apparently a love interest. And they’re both keeping a close eye on Adele.
And that’s all I can say, lest I spill a spoiler!! Ahh, you have to read it. I read it in one day. Yes, it’s that good. And, apparently, it’s part of a two-book series. I am so excited to read the next book when it comes out in Fall 2016. If you read it and can’t get enough it, there is a short story about Adele and Luka coming out on March 8! (I’ve already pre-ordered it :-D)
Let me know if you read it! I’d love to hear your thoughts.
