This month, I’m trying something new! Since Anne’s
Summer Reading Book Club is over, I’m branching out to the Book of the Month subscription service. In case you’ve never heard of Book of the
Month, it is a monthly service that offers a selection of five books per
month. Every month, they have five guest judges who each select one
book. You can choose one or more (at additional cost) to be delivered
to you.
The
cost per month differs, depending on the length of membership you sign
up for. The longer the membership, the less cost per month. Being that
these books are hardback, I’ve found that it is definitely worth the
cost per month. I signed up for a 3-month membership with a 30% coupon
code I’d found. My coupon code also included a free tote! I do love a
tote. 🙂
I chose one book from September’s picks and one book from August’s picks. You do have the option of adding in more books from prior months, which I think is great!
A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
Historical fiction is the genre I love, so this title caught my attention immediately. I’d heard the basic premise of the book, and that’s about it. Set in Russia in the 1920’s, Count Alexander Rostov is sentenced to house arrest in Metripol, which is a hotel across from the Kremlin. He is stuck in a hotel room during some of Russia’s most tumultuous years. I am very excited to read this!
The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
This is about a woman named Lo who goes on a luxury cruise vacation. During the cruise, she witnesses a woman being thrown over board. All passengers are accounted for, so the cruise goes on. No one believes what Lo saw. It is a classic Agatha-Christie-esque “paranoid” woman thriller. I love murder mysteries (and Hercule Poirot), so this sounds right up my alley!
