If your kids are like mine, they’re not super excited about running errands. They think it’s boring, it takes too long, and they would much rather be playing outside. And to be honest, who really likes running errands anyways? I can’t blame them one bit.
Personally, I think my kids’ complaining can be narrowed down to a few causes: they have energy to let out, they’re tired, or they’re hungry. It occurred to me that errand running could be so much easier if we take care of two or three of those problems before we head to the store!
How had I not thought of this before? The week after Hurricane Matthew blew through, we had quite a few errands to run on Saturday. After being cooped up in the house all week, there was no way we could get through the morning without burning off some of the kids’ energy first. To get ready for the park, I packed up the kids’favorite Welch’s Graham Slam!, cut fruit and veggies, and bottled water.
In each container, I had a Welch’s Graham Slam! and their favorite fruit or veggie. We brought grapes, apples, sliced carrots, and small bottled waters. After the kids ran around the park for about an hour, they were ready to snack on their goodies. Will and I took that as a cue to get started on our errands. The kids were so good, and I really believe it was because they got all their energy out and had a chance to refuel.
I have a couple tips on packing snacks for an outing. First, make sure to include a main item that has some substance, like Welch’s Graham Slam! With 7g of protein, 12g of whole grain and no high fructose corn syrup, this is our first choice for snack.
Next, include their favorite fruits and veggies. Our kids love apples, carrots, and grapes. I find it easier to get through any type of meal time if you include their favorite healthy items, so I definitely included their faves for a busy errand-running Saturday! Also make sure to keep the fruits/veggies separate in the container so the Welch’s Graham Slam! doesn’t get soggy.
One of our errands was to run by Walmart and pick up more Welch’s Graham Slam!. We always have these stocked in our freezer for snack time! We find them on the freezer snack aisle.
In fact, there’s a $1.00 of coupon going on right now. It expires 12/31/16 or while supplies last. Customers have 2 weeks from the day they print it to redeem it.
