At the end of every year, I love to think about the books I read. If you’re like me, you set a lofty reading goal and don’t always attain it. In 2016, I set a goal of reading 35 books. Well, much to my surprise, I surpassed it! My grand total was 40 books read in 2016.
Of course, that’s not counting books I didn’t finish. So, technically, I read more than 40 books. 40 is amazing, though!
I (day)dream about reading 52 books in one year. How awesome would that be? I am not sure if I will ever reach that lofty goal.
For 2017, I’ve set a goal to read 40 books. I hit 40 books in the fall, so it should be easy. Maybe I will surpass it again, or maybe I won’t even meet my goal.
My second reading goal is to slow down my purchasing of books. 😉 I get my Book of the Month club book every month, but for the most part I haven’t been purchasing books at the book store. We already have so many books to pack up (again) when we move in the spring, I don’t want to add to it. In fact, I could reach my 2017 reading goal without buying any more books.
I have one last goal, and that’s to let go of books that I either don’t like or don’t want to read. Recently, I went through the books on our bookcase and donated a ton of books that I’ve read and don’t want to keep. I also donated a lot of books that I haven’t read that don’t excite me anymore.
Going forward, I want to continue to purge books that don’t interest me. I also want to put books down that I don’t like. Just because I start a book doesn’t mean I have to finish it. There are so many books out there, I don’t want to waste time on books that don’t grab me. This is a little harder for me, because once I start something I like to finish it. 2016 was the first year that I didn’t finish multiple books.
So, all that being said, I am currently reading A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah. J. Maas. It is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, which happens to be one of my favorite stories (and Disney movies!). So far, I love it!
Do you have any reading goals for the year? I’d love to also hear about your own book recommendations!
