This might not be a secret (although, I hope it is), that I have gray hair. I started going gray when I was a teenager. It started slow, with just a few strands here and there. Until our second son was born, I went back and forth between coloring my hair and not caring. After our second little munchkin was born, I was a picture that just happened to have the back of my head in the corner.
Lo and behold, I had a huge gray streak at the end of my part that stood out so much! It was a shock to me, because I wasn’t expecting to see so much gray hair. In fact, I had another gray streak that I did know about. It just always happened to be hidden by my bangs. After I saw that picture, I decided I was too young to go around with gray streaks. When our second son was born, I was 24. Definitely not the time to look like a chic gray-haired lady!
There is nothing wrong with gray hair, but I really don’t want to have a full head of gray hair right now. In fact, I think I am about 80% gray at this point. I am very, very happy to have an at-home hair color routine that fits into my schedule. Schwarzkopf is a hair care brand that I’ve used for years, and their Schwarzkopf Keratin Coloring Kit is perfect for my situation. Gray hair is also a very different texture from ‘normal’ hair, so the keratin treatment included in this box is a wonderful part of my routine. It also insures that the color is even.
I love that it’s so convenient to pick up during my grocery shopping trip. This is where you can find it at Walmart.
My favorite color is Schwarzkopf Keratin Coloring Kit, 4.6 Intense Cocoa Hair Dye. There are a couple of the brunette shades in the Schwarzkopf Keratin Color product line that are very pretty, but this one has a gorgeous warmth to it that I love.
These are the items you get in the box of Intense Cocoa Hair Dye. I have the pre-treatment front and center! It really is amazing.
This is before I started the pre-treatment.
I also wanted to share my outfit. There’s no wonder why hair stylists always wear all black … you can’t see the hair color dye stains! I prefer to wear all-black, just in case some of the dye gets on me.
With gloves on my hands, I apply the pre-treatment to my ends. It has a heavy scent to it, and it smells like a salon to me. It smells really good!
After the pre-treatment, I mix the color in the bottle and apply it to my roots. Since my hair is lighter on the ends, I only apply this to my roots. It’s so easy to keep my gray roots covered up in between my ombre appointments!
With my gray roots completely gone, I honestly gain some confidence back. When my grays are really obvious, I don’t pull my hair back at all. When my roots are touched up and back to looking like themselves, I love to pull my hair back for an easy hair style during the week!
Now that I’ve shared my at-home hair color routine, tell me how you care for your hair at home!
