As I’ve been collecting home decor inspiration lately, I’ve noticed that the style that is the most appealing is rustic. Since we’re slowly collecting new items for when we move into our house, I’ve been keeping the style pretty rustic. I decided to get crafty with some new organizational pieces for our master bathroom, and I’m really happy with them!
In the past, I’ve created some rustic pieces using a specific painting technique. When I was at Target recently, I picked up some paint along with some other items on my grocery list like cotton rounds and my favorite Cetaphil® Moisturizing Cream. All of the paint colors were so inspiring, I decided to layer quite a few to create a weathered look. Using a wooden sign I found on the craft aisle, we now have a brand new space to keep all of our essentials.
The key to making whatever painting to look really old and weathered is layers and layers of paint. Obviously, items that are actually old have been painted multiple times. You can mimic that look with coordinating colors. Think about what colors you want to peek through and then layer them. I went with a dark brown, a metallic copper, a gorgeous jade, and eggshell. These were all layered one on top of the other, and then I gave the whole thing a good spray with white spray paint.
In addition, I did the same technique on two mason jars. I eliminated the jade and eggshell paint for the mason jars, because I really love the dark painting peaking through the white.
Next, the fun part! Sandpaper! Using a large grit, I rubbed away the parts that I want to look weathered. This is where you can really get creative and make your items look old.
Using some other decor items I purchased at Target, along with my essential skincare items that I want readily available, I rearranged our bathroom vanity layout. I could not be happier with it!
This has been a wonderful way to display my favorite items. Not only does everything look pretty, but everything I use is right at my fingertips. Along with my simplified decor, I like to keep my skincare as simple as possible. I only like to use products that really work and fit into my routine.
My day moisturizer is the Cetaphil® Moisturizing Cream, and I couldn’t rave more about it. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel greasy at all. It’s fragrance free, gentle, and non-irritating for my sensitive skin. Its extra-strength emollients and humectants bind to your skin to prevent moisture loss. I think the best thing is that it simplifies my skincare routine even further — you can use it on your hands, feet, elbows, and anywhere else that needs moisture.
It was so great that I could get all of my supplies and items on my list at Target. It really is my favorite one-stop shop.
