Over the past few months, I’ve been trying different meal delivery boxes. In case you’ve never heard of them, there are a ton of companies out there that deliver food right to your door. Each company has their own theme. Some of them deliver fresh ingredients and recipes so you can cook the meals your self, and some deliver meals already cooked so you don’t have to do any of the work.
I’ll let you guess which one I love. 🙂
Freshly is one such food subscription box, and they basically create and cook healthy meals for you and then deliver them right to your door! They have a variety of plans to choose from. The more meals you order, the better the deal. For example, the 6 meal box $9.99 per meal per week. But, if you order a 12 meal box, it is $8.99 per meal per week. Each meal is one serving, but honestly my husband and I could have split them in half. I was stuffed full after each meal.
I included pictures of the box and packing materials. The food is packed in biodegradable denim and recyclable ice packs. I love that they have instructions for recycling and disposing of the packing materials!
Out of all the food boxes I’ve tried, this one has the most variety. There seems like there is something for everyone. They let me choose which meals to try, and I got a variety of flavors and textures. This is also the first box I’ve seen to offer breakfast meals. There are probably other food boxes that offer breakfast, but this is the first one I’ve seen.
They include a list of the meals you ordered. I chose the Penne Bolognese, Buffalo Chicken with Loaded Cauliflower, Southwest Chicken Bowl, and Garden Omelette with Cheese.
This is what the meal boxes look like. Everything is contained in recyclable material, which is really great. We recycle everything in our house, from reusing to putting in the recycling bins. We put all of these containers in our recycling bin. The plastic rinses off really well, so no food was left on them.
The directions for heating up the meal is on the back of the cardboard sleeve. They offer two ways to heat up the meal. You can either pierce the plastic covering and microwave it as is, or you can plate it. I prefer to plate my meals before heating them up, because I don’t like putting plastic in the microwave. However, if you want to take these to work to heat up you do have that option. I like that you could take this entire container to work, heat up your food and eat out of it, and then rinse it all off to recycle.
This past weekend was the perfect weekend to try out these meals, since we were home all weekend. A weekend at home with minimal cooking? Yes, please!
This first meal is the omelette for breakfast. I had never thought to put broccoli and mushrooms in an omelette, and it was surprisingly good! It was the perfect way to start my day. Omelettes are my favorite breakfast meal, so I might have been a little biased. It was really delicious!
For lunch, I had the Southwest Chicken Bowl. I am a huge fan of bowl meals, when you combine a lot of flavors and textures that meld together in a delicious meal. This one had a little too much going on. I think there was a little wild rice in there, and I wasn’t a fan of that. But, the root vegetables and corn and chicken were seasoned perfectly!
My husband had the Buffalo Chicken with Loaded Cauliflower. The cauliflower completed surprised me. I’ve never used vegetables as a substitute for carbs like potatoes and rice before. They tasted so good I forgot it was cauliflower!
Last but certainly not least, I had to order a pasta dish. If there’s one thing I can’t live without, it’s pasta. This Penne Bolognese was so good. It had the perfect amount of seasoning, and it wasn’t dried out at all. I was a little nervous that microwaving the pasta would dry it out, but it was cooked perfectly!
And now I have something exciting for you! Freshly has given me a coupon code to pass along to everyone. Use coupon nocook639 to receive $20 off the 6 meal plan!
