Happy Halloween, friends! We’ve been looking forward to this day all month! Last year at this time, we were putting together semi-homemade outfits. I never shared our costumes on the blog because by the time we were done putting them together, I was done. You know what I mean? It was the first year that we’d put a lot of effort into homemade costumes. I’m glad we did, because it was a lot of fun. But…. one year was enough for me.
So, this year, we’re keeping’ it real and everyone got store-bought costumes. 😉
For posterity’s sake, here are our costumes from last year.
In case it’s not very obvious, the boys were Ghostbusters. My husband was Luis Tully, the accountant from the first Ghostbusters movie who gets possessed. I was the librarian ghost. Our daughter was Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service. We bought my dress, my wig, some pipe cleaners for the colander, the boys’ costumes, and a broom and cat. We attached pipe cleaners to the colander ‘hat’, and we made the proton packs, the goggles, the Kiki dress, and the Kiki headband.
It was a lot of work, but it was a lot fun. I might get the itch to make a homemade costume again, but it definitely wasn’t this year. 😉
Here are some pictures of the proton packs and goggles we made, along with the Kiki costume.
This year, we headed to the Target Halloween aisles, figuratively let the kids loose, and bought whatever costume they wanted to be. It was wonderful.
This year, we have a Master Chief from Halo, a Mario, and a Princess Jasmine.
I’d say the store bought costumes bring them just as much joy as the homemade ones. Mission accomplished!
