Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. My birthday was on Saturday, and I had a wonderfully relaxing weekend with my family. There’s nothing better than family, presents, and chilling out for a couple days!
Four years ago, I started a birthday tradition for myself. After being so frustrated at the amount of purses I (a) owned and (b) owned that would fall apart after using them all the time, I decided to start a proper purse collection. I love purses. The trouble I was having that I had too many, and the ones that I used all the time would just fall apart after a while. I really wasn’t investing in that part of my wardrobe.
So, now, every year for my birthday I purchase one really well-made purse for myself. I put a lot of thought into it, and I try to vary the colors that I purchase. So far, they have all been leather and I’ve purchased a different brand each year. In the years past, I’ve bought one from Madewell, one from Michael Kors, and two from Kate Spade.
This year, I purchased from a new-to-me brand called Nisolo. And I bought a couple more items along with it because they had an amazing sale the weeks leading up to my birthday.
That’s the major plus of having a birthday the week after Thanksgiving!
This purse is the Nisolo Simone Crossbody Shopper in black. I already own a black purse, but this one is a bit more structured. I like to vary the shapes and styles in my purses, as well.
When I first found out about the Nisolo brand, I checked out everything I could find on their website. Nisolo is an ethically produced brand. They started with shoes in Peru and have expanded to accessories and jewelry as well. They have an amazing video about how they started in Peru. They employ shoemakers in Peru who learned the shoemaking skills from the generations before them.
The Simone Crossbody Shopper is a tall and skinny tote style bag. It has two short handles and one detachable crossbody strap. I love the little the details in the straps, like the knots and the little pegs that let you adjust the length of the long strap. It is not lined, and it has a small zippered pocket on the inside.
After I bought the purse, I was looking for a skinny wallet to use with it. My current Vera Bradley wallet will take up to much room and, to be honest, I wanted something that matched the aesthetic as well. I happened upon a Nisolo sale (before they had even sent an email about it!) and picked up this black Clutch Wallet (sadly, sold out!).
This wallet is very slim, but it can actually hold a lot. It has a cute tassel detail on the front. The flap has a magnetic closure. On the inside, it has 8 card slots, an open section, and a zippered section. I am excited to move all my wallet items to this one, because it will finally motivate me to clean out useless cards and items from my current wallet.
This doubles as a clutch, so you can throw it in your bag during the day and use it as a purse if you go out at night (or anytime, really).
Last, but certainly not least, I purchased a pair of their sandals. I’ve been wearing my beloved Target sandals for years and they have definitely seen better days. After this summer, I decided to find a nicer pair to replace them. I wear this style so often in the summer, I really need something that will hold up over time. When they had these Serena Sandals half off, I snatched them up really quick. They are actually sold out now, so I am really glad I didn’t waiver on the decision!
I’ve worn these around the house to test them out, and they are incredibly comfortable. They fit true to size, in my opinions. I typically wear an 8, and that is what I ordered. The ankle strap is adequately sized and is very comfy. I wanted to mention the ankle strap specifically, because sometimes I will purchase a pair of shoes in the correct size and yet the ankle strap will be too small. This typically happens to me with shoes from Target (save the black strappy pair that these will replace). These also have a very small heel, which I think is very pretty.
I am so happy I discovered the Nisolo brand. I can already tell that I’ll be purchasing more pieces from them in the future. A couple items I have my eye on are the Emma d’Orsay Oxfords and the Dari Boots.
