Are you ready for another foundation Friday? I am super excited to try some foundations from NYX. Today’s foundation is the NYX Stay Matte Not Flat Foundation. This particular foundation speaks to me on a personal level, because more often than not I love a matte foundation. However, for the past few months, I’ve been wanting dewy foundations that give my skin a glow. Since this foundation claims to be matte but not flat, it was definitely begging for me to buy it! Plus, NYX was on sale on Ulta’s site at the time. That was just a bonus.
CLAIMS
The claims are that this is lightweight, buildable, and full coverage. Based on the name, it claims to be matte but not flat. To me, that would be a satin finish. I love a satin finish foundation, because it’s really the best of both worlds. As a combination/oily gal, I really need some oil control but I appreciate a dewy look at the same time. It is $7.50 for 1.18 ounces.
SHADE RANGE
Per the usual, this foundation seems to have started out with not a lot of shade options. Their website says 10 additional shades have recently been added. I have the lightest shade in Ivory, and it’s a really great match for me at my natural shade. This is not something I can wear when I have a tan on, and I really appreciate that. This whole entire summer of foundation Fridays has basically been me finding foundations that match me when I’m tan (which is not very often).
For shade comparisons, here are foundations that match me:
Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation in Porcelain
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation in 100 (first impressions video here)
rms beauty Un Cover-Up Foundation/Concealer in 000 (review here)
Wet n Wild MegaCushion Foundation in 106A (review here)

HOW TO APPLY
I did my usual methods of application — a buffing brush and a damp beauty blender. The buffing brush was by far the best way. A damp beauty blender just makes it cakey and heavy, which is definitely not what I want. I’ve been using my always favorite Marc Jacobs The Face III brush.
MY REVIEW
I really like the concept of this foundation. A satin matte finish is the way to go when you’re oily but want some glow. As you can see in the picture above, it creases on me. My face was lightly powdered with a NYX HD setting powder, which was part of the reason it creased. I wore this un-powdered and it creased a little bit, but not nearly as bad as when it was powdered. This looks pretty good throughout the day. I don’t feel the need to touch up during work, and it doesn’t look cakey on my face.
I tend to always have a problem with the area between my eyes. Foundation never settles in that spot well. If you ever notice that in my photos, that’s simply something that happens with nearly every foundation I try.
I can’t knock this foundation too much. It doesn’t crease as bad without powder, and it looks good for an entire day of work. If this didn’t crease at all, it would be perfect. The price is also really great, and the size is slightly more than the standard 1 ounce. Overall, it’s a great foundation from the drugstore and it would definitely be a repurchase for me.
