Of all the seasons, fall is my absolutely favorite. There’s nothing I don’t love about … except for maybe the rain. Here in eastern NC, it does get a little rainy during fall. Plus, with hurricanes (I’m looking at you, Florence), the fall foliage is not always the best.
Luckily, we’re planning a trip to the mountains at the end of October. It happens to coincide with the Southerneastern Animal Fiber Fair, so we’re actually heading a little further south than we’re used to. Typically, we hit up Boone or Blowing Rock. SAFF is located in Fletcher, which is about 30 minutes from Asheville. I’m ready for all the yarny goodness I can get my hands on!
Side note: I don’t bring up my crafty side much on this blog, but I couldn’t help but mention it since our trip is coming up next month and I am so ready for fall. Plus, the Hurricane Florence warning woke me up this morning and now I can’t go back to sleep. This is my cleaning day, but everyone is still asleep. So, here I sit writing to you!
So, our trip is taking us close to Asheville. I’ve never seen the Biltmore House, and I would love to visit it. I’m not sure if it’s super kid friendly. Our kids are well-behaved, although I think they would get bored if they had to be completely quiet during the tour. Let me know if you’ve visited the Biltmore House with kids!
Next to the sights of fall, the tastes and smells are my favorites, too. I really ramp up my baking, so our house is always smelling like some sort of baked good. I’m always experimenting with different muffins and snacks, but there are two recipes I’m looking forward to baking again.
For those who know me, the first recipe will come as a surprise (unless you’ve already seen it here on my blog). Sadly, I am allergic to raw apples. From all the research I’ve found it, it’s actually related to having a birch pollen allergy; so, it’s technically more of an oral allergy syndrome vs. an actual allergy. Regardless, I love apples and I can actually eat cooked apples.
So, I am super excited to bake up some apples again! I originally posted this recipe in 2016, and you can find it here.
Another recipe that I posted that same year is Cranberry Maple Muffins. I love the simple flavor with the addition of cranberries. You can find the recipe here.
I’d love to hear about your favorite fall recipes!
