Welcome back to another installment of Rebecca Reads! This is where I share all things pertaining to my reading life. I share book lists, book reviews, and occasionally news about new releases. Today is a very exciting today, because it’s release day for Anne Bogel’s new book I’d Rather Be Reading! You might already know that I am a member of the launch team for this book, so I was sent this book for review. As always, my opinions are completely my own. I always feature products that I use and love, and I can affirm that I 100% love this book.
In case you’ve never heard of I’d Rather Be Reading, this is a book about readers for readers. Anne has written a collection of essays about reading and covers various topics pertaining to the reading life. As you all probably already know, I have a deep love for reading. I am never without a book, physical copy or otherwise, and I have most definitely read far too late into the night only to wake up the next day (errr.. sometimes the same day!) only slightly regretting … on more than one occasion. The book confessions that I saw going around on social media had me laughing, nodding, and saying ‘me too!!’. I never shared my ‘worst’ book confession, so I am sharing it for the end of this post.
This book was like a cozy conversation with a friend. I enjoyed reading it for the same reason I love listening to Anne Bogel’s podcast — it feels like a casual conversation with people who love books as much as I do. I saw myself in each chapter of the book.
The chapter titled Book People resonated so deeply with me, it was as if Anne was writing about me and my husband (funnily, also named Will like Anne’s husband). In that chapter, she describes her parent’s book collections and the stark difference between the small collection of her mother’s and the vast collection of her father’s. My own book collection is considerably smaller than my husband’s; so much so, that we will be trading book cases soon. I have the prettier, larger book shelf but he really needs it more than I do. In fact, a third of mine is housing my yarn … so you can tell how few books I keep! My husband, on the other hand, needs much more room to house all of his books. Now, my cookbooks are another story …. I can’t part with any of them!
When everyone was sharing their book confessions online, I was very nervous to share my own. It involves a very well known book series that recently had a birthday … Harry Potter. It seems like everyone has read the series by now, but I am here to confess that I haven’t. In fact, not only have I not read the series, but I’ve only read the first book.
And I skipped an ENTIRE chapter when I read it. That’s right … I skipped the entire quidditch match chapter. I read just enough to know the outcome, but otherwise I was completely bored by it. The book, as a whole, was very good. I will probably read it one day, but it’s nowhere near the top of my tbr list. Hopefully that doesn’t put you off my book posts! I’ve told very few people about that book confession.
I have a wonderful surprise for everyone today! Since I was sent a book and I preordered two so I could get the preorder bonuses, I am giving away TWO copies of I’d Rather Be Reading. I’m using the widget below to select the winner, so you can do all your entries there. Good luck to all who enter!
