Welcome to another installment of Rebecca Reads. This is a little area on the blog where I share the books I’m reading, book reviews, and book lists. I had the pleasure of being on a couple of book launch teams this year, one of which was for Cozy Minimalist Home. Cozy Minimalist Home is a book written by Myquillyn Smith, another North Carolinian. She arguably lives in one of the prettiest areas of the state, the western side with all the gorgeous mountains! Color me jealous, but I’m sure her home feels cozy no matter what. Just living in that area of the state would give me cozy vibes all year long.
I preordered her book just like everyone else, but as part of the book launch team I was given a few extra perks like early access to a few chapters. When I book arrived in the mail on launch day, (thank you, Amazon Prime), I dove right in.
This book couldn’t have been released at a more perfect time for me. Typically, during the year, our home is pretty casual. I love rustic furniture and the modern farmhouse style fits me so well. I’m fairly minimalist, but I’m definitely on the maximalist side of the spectrum without actually being a maximalist. I like to have fewer items around, but I like those items to really make a statement.
However, come September, I break out every sort of autumnal decoration you can think of. You name it, it’s in the house. I love it all, but this year it felt a little too much. Even though I brought out all my favorite decorations, I felt the urge to put some away. In stepped the Cozy Minimalist Home, and it got my home decor ideas churning. Myquillyn’s easy way of writing about home decor really pulled together all the jumbled thoughts I’d been having about my own decor.
And the home decor eye candy wasn’t too bad, either. Sometimes we just need a refresher to remember what we truly love about our home. I’m glad I read this book heading into the holiday season. I’ve put away a couple of vases of autumnal flowers, and it’s already looking more like me.
If you’re in need of a little home decor idea refresher or you’re just starting out decorating your home and don’t know what to do (Pinterest can be so overwhelming sometimes), I highly recommend you check out Cozy Minimalist Home. Maybe you’re a minimalist, maybe you’re a maximalist; but Myquillyn’s fresh take on home decor in a maximalist world is refreshing.
