Today’s book review is perfect for summer. If you’re looking for your next beach read, you need to check out Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey!

Waiting for Tom Hanks is the quintessential rom-com in book form. Annie Cassidy lives with her single uncle, who moved in after her parents passed away, and is pining away for her own Tom Hanks. She’s obsessed with Nora Ephron movies (aren’t we all?) and wants to be a script writer for rom-com movies. Annie spends most of her time at the local coffee shop amid her eclectic group of friends.
Honestly, it felt like I strolled right into a rom-com and I didn’t hate it one bit. Side note: her friend group actually reminds me of Bridget Jones’s fun loving friends.
In Annie’s small town, an actual rom-com movie is being filmed. She gets a job as assistant to the director and promptly spills coffee on the attractive star of the movie. Meet-cute much? Annie is so obsessed with having her own rom-com in real life, she doesn’t realize when it’s actually happening to her.
Through a series of funny encounters, bad dates, and a snow storm, Annie breaks down the barriers she put in her life with the help of her best friend. This story was honestly heart-warming and felt like a Hallmark Christmas movie in book form. I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, . If you want something light that will make you smile and laugh (with lots of Nora Ephron movie references), I definitely recommend this.
