I rearranged this week’s posts a little bit. Today will be a Rebecca Reads book review, and yesterday was a styling post. Did you see yesterday’s one dress three ways? That was so much fun to style! Today’s post is about This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen. This is the first Sarah Dessen book I’ve ever read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I actually have another Sarah Dessen book on hold for me at the library, and I can’t wait to pick it up!

This Lullaby follows Remy in her senior year of high school. Her mom is a slightly eccentric popular writer who’s about to enter her 5th marriage. Her dad passed away when she was very little, and she never knew him. The only piece of him she has is a song called This Lullaby, which became a smash hit. Sadly, he died soon after releasing it.
While Remy is planning her mom’s wedding, just as she plans nearly everything else for her mom, she bumps into Dexter. Dexter is a musician for a band traveling through town. Ironically, he’s actually related to Remy’s mom’s fiance.
Remy hates everything about Dexter — he’s messy, he’s a musician, and he’s juvenile. However, as they spend more and more time together, she starts to fall for him. Remy decides it’s just a summer fling, Dexter over hears her, and it breaks his heart.
Soon after, everything falls apart. Her brother gets engaged, her mom’s husband is cheating on her, and her friend group is parting ways towards the end of the summer. Remy has to decide if she’s going to take a chance at a real relationship with Dexter.
And that’s all I’ll say without spoiling anything! It was a very engaging read and exactly what I want to read during the summer. I have to admit, the lullaby song theme throughout the book was a little cheesy to me. Although it’s a theme, it’s not a huge part of the storyline. I loved the dynamic of Remy’s friend group. It was a group of eclectic personalities that really made the story come alive.
I am looking forward to reading another Sarah Dessen book! Have you read anything by her?
