It’s about that time to read a spooky story! We’ve been watching scary movies for the last couple weeks, and it has me in the mood for a murder mystery or something suspenseful. Today, I’m sharing some spooky reads that I’ve read or caught my eye recently. I’d love to hear what you’re reading this month, too!

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
I’ve mentioned this one a few times before, but Gillian Flynn does creepy the right way. I have enjoyed all four of her books, but Sharp Objects stands out to me above the rest. Did you know it was made into a movie?
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
This is the perfect time to read this. It is relatively quick, not because it’s short but because of the fast pace. Amazon made this into a show! I love Neil Gaiman’s world building. This book is surprisingly funny.
The Grownup by Gillian Flynn
Again, Gillian just knows how to do a good, weird story! This is a very short story, if you’re not in the mood for a long read.
Anything by H.P. Lovecraft
Written in the time of Victorian horrors, Lovecraft is known not for gore but for the creepiness of the unknown. My husband and I read At the Mountains of Madness last year for our spooky October book, and I enjoyed it.
The Shining by Steven King
Classic. It’s so good and very suspenseful, and I honestly couldn’t stop seeing Jack Nicholson’s face in my mind while I was reading this. After my husband and I read this, we watched the movie. He had seen it before, but it was my first time watching it all the way through. Of course, over the years I had seen bits and pieces
