What a perfect time to read this book series, right before the Fourth of July! I promise, I did not plan it like this. We’ve had a lovely, lazy weekend at the coast and it gave me just the right amount of time to read these two books. I’ve been meaning to read the American Royals series for quite a while. Right now, there are only two books. American Royals is the first book, and Majesty is the sequel.
This is an alternative historical young adult fiction, based on the idea that George Washington is crowned king after the Revolutionary War. Two and half centuries later, and the House of Washington is still ruling.

I am really going to try and sum up my review without giving any spoilers, because you might have not read both … or you might have read the first and not the second. Anyway!
So, the first one starts out with Beatrice, the oldest daughter of King George IV and Queen Adelaide, needing to find a husband. She has two siblings, twins Samantha (Sam) and Jefferson (Jeff). Beatrice’s grandfather changed the law that passes the crown to the oldest son. She will be the first Queen of American after her father passes.
Each family member has some drama of their own, but the biggest drama is that Beatrice is in love with her bodyguard Connor. She is supposed to marry someone royal, so she may maintain the crown. Her father has told her it’s time to seriously start looking for a husband.
Sadly, the reason her father is so insistent on her finding a husband is because he has cancer. This changes a lot for everyone involved, and the ending was completely unexpected (at least for me!!)
In the second book, some of the drama in Jeff’s life creeps back into the storyline and the couples from the first book are all different. To be honest, the drama was lacking. There was no tension like there was in American Royals. Ultimately, I am glad to have read both but I finished the second book wanting more.
Have you read the American Royals series? I hope a third book is released!
