Pardon the Halloween picture from last year, but can you tell I’m ready for fall? I am just so over summer and the heat, give me cold weather and cozy candles and blankets!! Today, I want to share my essential hygge items. When I first heard about the term hygge, I didn’t know that I was already practicing it and simply didn’t know it was a thing that people around the world do. Hygge is basically feeling cozy and happy and all those things that make you feel good in your home/work/etc. Our house is very hygge when fall rolls around. I try to incorporate the same essential hygge items throughout the summer, but it just isn’t the same as fall and winter.

First up, I have led candles on nearly every surface in our living spaces. I set them on a timer to turn on the evening. As the sunset changes going into fall/winter, I change the timers to come on earlier. It’s just so relaxing to have little flickering lights on when we wind down for the evening. And I love that I don’ have to turn them on/off, they just stay on the schedule I set.
Next, the amount of blankets we own is actually crazy. I have somehow passed on my love of blankets and quilts to the kids. Honestly, we have blankets out year-round. But, in the fall and winter I always seem so to pick a couple more at Target. They make really comfy and affordable ones!
Of course, you all know how much I love candles. The fall scents are my favorite. One time, our oldest went into the closet where I keep the candles and said ‘it smells like memories in here!’ Isn’t that the sweetest? That’s exactly how I feel about my favorite fall scents. They smell like memories.
