Have I told you this is my favorite time of year? I’ve probably said it a few hundred times since September. Today, I wanted to share our favorite family Halloween activities. We’re gearing up for a few festive activities in the second half of the month, and I am so excited!

Halloween Movies
We have family movie night every Friday and take turns picking a movie. The kids may or may not pick a Halloween movie, but it’s completely up to them. We also watch movies on Saturday nights if we’re home. I usually pick the Saturday night movie. There’s a list of our favorite Halloween movies here.

Halloween Popcorn Bar
The moment I start stocking up on Halloween candy, the kids have the Halloween popcorn bar on their radar. This is literally the most simple activity. You pop some popcorn, buy some festive candy, and tada! A popcorn bar. You can make it as cute as you want (or not at all). The important thing is popcorn + candy = a fun time. I shared some ideas here.

Decorating the front porch
It is hit or miss every year, whether I do the outside decorating by myself or have help. It’s fine either way, but the boys did help me this year. We don’t change it up very much, unless we have the urge to buy something that looks really cool. The only thing we added this year were a few more grave headstones and some solar lights that look like flames. You can see our previous porch decor here. Sadly, Bob the Zombie doesn’t work anymore without pushing the button. He used to be sound activated. Maybe we’ll find another zombie next year. Bob isn’t going anywhere, though. He’s here for life.

Carving Pumpkins
Every year, we have our friends and family over for a pumpkin carving party. We’re having this year’s party the day before Halloween, so everyone’s pumpkins will be ready to go on Halloween night! It’s so much fun, and I’m really looking to this year’s party being somewhat normal.

Costumes
Of course, the most fun part of Halloween is the dressing up! Last year was the first year our oldest didn’t trick-or-treat. Our middle son might not trick-or-treat this year, but I have a feeling he’ll change his mind at the last minute. He has a t-rex costume to use if he decides to go out with his sister. Our daughter is dressing up as Hermione Granger this year! We’ve had a lot of fun finding all the pieces for her costume. It’s going to be so much fun, and I’m going to soak up every minute in case this is the last year she dresses up!
Thanks for checking out our favorite family Halloween activities. What is your favorite part about October?
