Before I get to my May goals, I want to go over my April goals from last month. You can check those out here. This month is very exciting, as we’re moving forward with our patio/fire pit plans. I foresee even more time spent outside. One thing I miss about our old house is the backyard. It was perfectly shaded with really nice grass. There was just enough space to keep us busy outside without being overwhelming. Our current house’s yard has been challenging since day 1. Our lot was severely overgrown, so it’s been a battle of controlling water flow in the yard, prickly vines everywhere, and tons of weeds. We’re chipping away piece by piece at our backyard goals, and the patrio/firepit is an exciting next step!!

What’s going on this month:
-First up, Mother’s Day weekend! We’ll spend half of that Saturday in Raleigh going to the van Gogh exhibit and then dinner. Sunday will be church and another meal out. Although I love cooking, it will be nice to have a break.
-The first of two ‘last days of school’! One of our kids has a last day of school towards the end of May. Summer is inching closer.
-I am researching more for our Disney/Universal trip in the fall. With six people (us +1, all at adults prices this time, haha!), I am scoping out restaurants for all the parks that fit our tastes and budget. I do love a deep dive into travel plans, so this is fun for me.
-This past month, I did a deep clean of the screened-in porch and now I’m ready to start adding plants again. Back in January, the majority of my plants did not survive the cold out in the porch. Even plants who had already wintered outside didn’t make it. I have lots of dirt-filled pots with no plants, so I’ll slowly be adding back some greenery to the porch this month. Here are my favorite places to by plants online.
My April goals:
–Search for a white wood and glass plant cabinet. It has very specific measurements, so I don’t think this will be a quick find. This goal is only halfway complete. I found a cabinet, and it’s this one. I’m going to sit on this one for a bit, because I really want to find something with glass shelves for the maximum amount of light for the plants.
–Finalize the paver/stone options and design for a patio and firepit in the backyard. Our patio/firepit was started this week! Yay!
–Go to bed at 9pm every night. This is tied to my ‘move my body everyday’ goal. Any later than 9 and is very hard to get up at 5am! Spring Break wreaked havoc on this goal. I’m getting back on track this week!
–Finish the Kneedles + Life pattern marketing course. This is part of a larger goal to learn knit wear pattern design and release a sock pattern this upcoming Fall. You can find my knitting blog here. This is another on-going goal. I did not finish the marketing course and plan to start back on it this week.
–Finish Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I am on track to finish the series before we go to Universal in October! Finished!! I am reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It is the longest book of the series, so I started it before May.
What I’m reading right now:
-Being Mortal by Atul Gawande
-Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling
-You can check out my 2022 book list here.
My May goals:
-I’m taking the Kneedles + Life marketing course with me for May! I am determined to finish it and absorb all the things from the content.
-Going on family walks and creating a running habit again.
-Finish Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. With my goal of completing the series by July, I feel like this is going to be a tough one to complete with out large the last three books are!!
-Research grills for the patio. We have never owned a grill before, so this is all new territory. There are a lot of options out there, so we want to find the right one for us.
What are your goals for April?
