I took a slight detour from my 2022 reading list (you can find that here). There’s just something about summer reading. Even though I don’t have summers off, my schedule is a little different so I have most Fridays off. Every summer, I end up reading a ton and though I’d share some of my reviews here! Today, I want to share my review of The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han.

I am a fan of Jenny Han’s books, and The Summer I Turned Pretty basically seems like the perfect book for summer. It is the first book of a trilogy, and it’s also a show on Prime Video! I’ll read the entire series before I watch the show.
The story centers around Isabel “Belly” and her mom, brother, her mom’s best friend Susannah along with her two sons, Jeremiah and Conrad. Each summer, they all stay at Susannah’s summer house at Cousins Beach. Summers are the highlight of every year, and it really had a formative effect on Isabel.
Of course, being a young adult romance, she has a crush on Conrad. She is closer friends with Jeremiah. The story jumps around in time, with a few chapters in the present and then chapters about the past that give you context for the relationships and events that led to the summer mentioned in the chapter — the summer Isabel turned pretty.
Being that it’s a trilogy, there is a cliff hanger ending. That being said, I never had a full grasp on which brother she would end up with or if she would even end up with one of them. That really kept me reading. I read this in one day!
If you’re looking for something light and fun for the summer, this is it! Let me know if you read it and what you think.
