At the beginning of this year, I made a list of books to read each month. You can see more on my 2022 book list here. For the first 7 months of the year, I read the Harry Potter series ahead of our trip to Universal Studios. I planned to read one book per month, and I was successful! Here are my thoughts on the Harry Potter series.

For a very long time, the only ‘avid book reader confession’ I had was that I hadn’t read the entire Harry Potter series. I read the first book years and years ago but never picked up the series again. A couple years ago, my husband gifted me the entire set after I mentioned wanting to read it. The box set sat on my shelf until this January, when I decided it was the perfect time to read the entire series.
We could easily go to Universal Studios without my knowing all the details of the Harry Potter series, but it’s just so much fun when you notice the Easter eggs scattered throughout the parks. I also love knowing different things, like why there’s a dragon on top of Gringott’s Bank. Prior to reading the books, I didn’t know the whole story of the dragon. While I was reading the series, we were also watching the movies as a family. I will say, in the debate of book vs movie, of course the books are better. However, the movies are so perfect to watch in the fall. They really are cozy movies that are great at that time of year.
Would I read the books again? Absolutely! I really enjoyed them more than expected. Would I recommend them to everyone? Ehh, probably not. I think if you enjoy fantastical stories and world building, then these would be your thing. Other than that, I don’t think they’re for everyone. That may be an unpopular opinion, especially given how well known the books and movies are. At any rate, I really enjoyed the series and look forward to experiencing Harry Pottery world!
Thanks for reading my thoughts on the Harry Potter series! Have you read the books? I’d love to know what you think of them!
