Another month ends, another beauty favorite post magically appears before your eyes. I didn’t change up my makeup too much this month, so August’s favorites are kind of equal part makeup and skin care.
Earlier this year, I did a huge beauty swap with Aine. This product is what started it all. Since we can’t get this in the states, she offered to send it to me. We ended up doing a huuuuge swap (it was so much fun!). I tried this Hydraluron as soon as I got my package, but my skin was breaking out pretty bad. Since I wasn’t sure if the Hydraluron was causing it, I put it away for a while. Well, for the past month I’ve been using it, and I can tell a definite difference in my skin! I use it during the day under my moisturizer. My skin feels smooth, soft, and super moisturized.
If you’ve never heard of Hydraluron, it is straight up hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid can hold 1,000 times its weight in moisture. Essentially, it attracts tons of moisture to your skin. My skin is oily, but it’s also dehydrated so this is amazing for it.
Michael Todd Organics Blue Green Algae Toner
I absolultely love this toner. Honestly, I’m a toner junkie. My skin just doesn’t feel right if I don’t tone. So, this is particular toner is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and highly moisturizing. It gives my spots a slight sting that makes me feel like it’s doing something. 🙂 It’s great for my acne prone skin. If your skin is like mine, I highly recommend this!
Usually, I prefer chemical exfoliants to exfoliants with the little scrubbies in them (so technical, I am). This formula feels like frothy clay mask. It has little exfoliating beads in it. You can use it 2-3 times a week. I use this when my skin needs a good exfoliation. My complexion looks so much better after I use this!
Laura Mercier Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme
This was one of my samples in my Birchbox this month. It feels sooo. good. The skin under my eyes is always so dry, and this has improved the moisture level. My makeup looks better, and my skin looks healthier. Win, win!
Sleek Blush in Pomegranate
At first glance, this blush is scary. But, if you tap your brush lightly and dust it over the apples of your cheeks, it is surprisingly natural looking. You can see me wearing it in my favorites video.
I was a bit hesitant to include this in a favorites post, because I actually would not purchase the full size of this product. The only reason? The price! The full size of this primer costs $55. $55!! I would much rather spend $55 on a skin care item than on a makeup item. That being said, this primer is so good. It is light, yet slightly tacky. Your foundation really clings to it and everything looks smooth. If you are not adverse to paying that for a primer, do it! I just can’t (although, I might spring for the smaller $18 size).
Neutrogena Longwear Nourishing Foundation in Classic Ivory
I used this in my day off makeup post. This foundation looks so great on my skin. It has quite good coverage, but it doesn’t look cakey. It covers up everything I want to cover up and lets my skin show through a bit. It lasts a long time, as long as it’s not too humid outside. If I know it’s going to be super humid, I will wear a primer underneath it.
Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow in Playa del Pink
This is going to sound ridiculous, but when I was rounding up the items for this post I wasn’t sure if I had featured this in a previous favorites. Well, even if I did, I will feature it again! I absolutely love this eye shadow. It’s so incredibly light weight on my lids, and it’s also very pigmented. The sheen is gorgeous and flattering. I recommend these eyeshadows! (I want to go back and buy all the colors!)
Maybelline Color Elixir in Celestial Coral
This is a very nice liquid-lipstick-esque lip gloss. It looks like a lip gloss but kind of feels like a lipstick. It’s not tacky, yet it stays put for a long while. I love this color, which is Celestial Coral. Love!!
Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara in Black
I love me a good volumizing mascara, and this one fits the bill. It has a traditional bristle wand, which is what I prefer. Although it doesn’t claim to lengthen, I do find that my lashes look a little longer with this mascara.
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish
Because I am so highly organized, I left out one product in the picture. Earlier this month, I participate in a Blogger’s Day Out through Em Grey Photography. That particular morning, after I left my house, I realized I’d forgotten to paint my nails. I pulled into a Walgreens real quick and purchased a bottle of the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish in Petal Pusher (a pale pink), painted my nails in the car, and they were dry before I pulled out of the parking lot. Amazing! I love this line of nail polish.
And now for my monthly giveaway! (personally, my favorite part)
